If the actual weight of the package is 8 kg, the carrier will likely charge you based on the volumetric weight of 10 kg because it's higher.

In consolidated shipping, multiple packages from different shippers are combined into one consignment. This means you need to calculate the volumetric weight for each individual package and then sum them up to get the total volumetric weight of the consignment.
Let's say you have three packages:
Package 1: Length = 30 cm, Width = 20 cm, Height = 15 cm. Using the air freight factor of 6000, its volumetric weight is (30 x 20 x 15) / 6000 = 1.5 kg.The total volumetric weight of the consignment is 1.5 + 4+ 0.83 = 6.33 kg.
Choose the right - sized boxes for your items. Avoid using oversized boxes as they will increase the volumetric weight. For example, if you have a small item, use a small box instead of putting it in a large box with a lot of empty space.
If possible, repack multiple small items into one larger box. This can sometimes reduce the overall volumetric weight compared to shipping each item in a separate box.
Different carriers have different pricing structures and dimensional factors. Do some research and compare quotes from different carriers to find the one that offers the best deal for your shipment based on its volumetric and actual weight.
